Love was not in accordance to his excel spreadsheet and the inability of Lynscot to accept herself followed in the constant criticism of Him.
The relationship was more of a fling that became a friendship that unexpectedly flowered into a relationship. It was very easy going in the beginning, both were critical of love and valued one another more as friends who enjoyed one another's company, including writing letters to one another while abroad. They even decided to take a trip together across 7 countries and 2 continents which is when they realized their friendship had a possibility of becoming more. While he always withdrew from the relationship and then giving in at random moments, She guided her emotions and trusted that he could grow to love her more than his 3 year plans on his excel spreadsheets. She was wrong. She should have listened to the spreadsheet.
Running out the door before she ran into a former lover Lynscot felt a sudden tug at her arm. Though it was a Halloween party she had not made any effort to put on a costume and so was at the Canterbury House, frumpy in old sweats pants, no make up, and the oddball who had been staring at her while she sat on the couch was now grabbing at her to dance! They exchanged names and due to a joke with friends she facebooked the quirky kid, and found an invitation to a lunch date the next day.
Kirkland will be remembered for his wonderful cooking skills, his sweetness, his cleanliness (unlike most young men), His intelligence, his spirit of giving, and his passion that peaked out while playing music such as in France at Le caveau des oubliettes. Kirk will be remembered for his ability to spreadsheet the mess out of anything, for making Lynscot budgets, and helping her get her in and out of college together. His kindness, and financial support (to which Lynscot is over a thousand dollars in debt) will always be remembered. He also had the best lips and the nicest belly.
The relationship was founded on a solid foundation of friendship, and freedom from the Need found in many relationships. Both persons were committed to the growth of the other, and supported the other's independent travels abroad. There was never (until the end) the necessary need for one another to be the be all and end all of one another's love. He was also a talented musician that made her heart flutter.
Kirkland will be lease remembered for his conservative take on life, his ability to reduce everything to a number, a date, and for his insecurity.
Kirkland who has found peace and tranquility in Costa Rican climates will glide peacefully back happy to embrace a brand new friendship. Lynscot on the other hand will use every ounce of her strength not to contact until she is fully ready to be simply a friend...she has strong doubts this may ever occur and like past relationships she will probably mourn the loss of her lover Kirkland for many years to come.
Lynscot is disappointed in her inability to have seen Kirklands unhappiness and to have been the one to help him along the way. Lynscot is highly disappointed for not have being cognizant earlier for the way she might have treated Kirkland with words of disapproval (even the jokes). And of course Lynscot shakes her head in the disappointment of another beautiful friendship that perhaps never be fully restored but transformed into the unknown 'else.'
A handful of mutual friends will have to survive the incessant crying of Lynscot and probably the complaints of Kirkland.
