Murder in the Third Degree
A love not yet named was crushed underfoot by the sudden encounter of another, Mackenzie broke the heart of someone she didn't realize she was even affecting, and the final goodbye was little more than a twist of the knife.
Their first encounter was one of shared learning; they met in a class.
Like a flower killed before it has a chance to bloom, it will be remembered only for its lost potential.
It will be hard to do without the constant comfort of eachother's presence, but in time, neither will remember why.
The slow death of bleeding out will never be forgotten, though, and it will always be the pressure that keeps the two apart.
The sad death of that which was not will always be a dream to some, a dream of potential and could haves. To others, it will be a nightmare, a fear of the darkest possibility.
It's sad that it had to happen, but little, if anything, can survive ten knife wounds in the back. One will find little comfort in the ability to ask 'what if?'.
The freak sister of the relationship still exists, uncharged with the assault and murder of her brother, but has been keeping herself out of the public eye ever since the original attacks.
"Stop your whining."
